Sustainable agriculture begins with the soil
On June 25, a seminar titled “Sustainable Agriculture: Land Improvements and Efficient Field Crop Production Technologies” was held at the Bălți branch of the National Center for Seed Research and Production (CNCPS). The event was organized by the Agricultural and Rural Advisory Center.
Discussions focused on recent changes in land legislation and the possibilities of accessing advance subsidies for land improvement works — topics of major interest for farmers looking to make sustainable investments in their agricultural land.
Another key point on the agenda was soil protection and crop rotation compliance. Research specialists emphasized that neglecting crop rotation could lead to the loss of a valuable portion of Moldova’s chernozem, a crucial resource for agriculture.
The seminar also showcased over 40 varieties of soybeans, beans, and peas tested under the conditions of northern Moldova, with the support of Donau Soja Moldova. Soybeans are not only valuable crops themselves but also excellent precursors for cereals, contributing to soil health and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
The event provided participants with practical recommendations, examples of best practices, and viable solutions for achieving a more sustainable and competitive agriculture.
