Starting from 2026, farmers will keep records of agricultural activities in the Field History Book

The Field History Book becomes mandatory for agricultural producers starting from 2026

Starting from 2026, the Field History Book becomes mandatory for agricultural producers. Farmers will therefore be required to record agricultural activities in this document, which reflects land use, crop rotation, and the operations carried out on each agricultural plot. The regulation on how to complete this document was approved by Order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry No. 169 of 9 October 2025 and sets out the content, completion procedures, and record-keeping requirements for agricultural land.

The basic unit of record is the land plot managed, leased, or cultivated by the agricultural producer. For each plot, data is recorded on cultivated crops, agrotechnical operations, application of fertilizers, irrigation, and soil protection measures. The document allows for monitoring the agronomic history of land and provides a clear overview of how agricultural land is used.

“2026 will be the first year in which farmers will complete the Field History Book. To ensure proper tracking of crop rotation, it is recommended to include data starting from 2022, where such information is available. The document must be kept on the farm and completed clearly and consistently, without erasures or corrections, with responsibility for the accuracy of the data resting with the person designated by the landholder,” stated Grigore Baltag, Head of the Plant Production Directorate within the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The regulation also предусматривает periodic evaluation of soil condition. Agrochemical indicators are to be analysed once every 5 years, and physico-chemical indicators once every 10 years, based on analyses carried out by accredited laboratories, with results recorded in the document.

“The Field History Book is an agricultural record-keeping tool and part of the system for monitoring agricultural activities. It ensures traceability of operations and crops and serves as a basis for planning and control,” added Grigore Baltag.

The specialist also noted that, following the approval of the Strategic Programme of Agricultural Policy, the document will become part of the file submitted to the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture for obtaining subsidies. At this stage, the book will be completed manually, with agricultural records to be digitised later through the Farmer’s Register platform.

During February–March, the Agricultural and Rural Advisory Center, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, conducted a large-scale information campaign for agricultural producers on the importance and proper completion of the Field History Book.
