African swine fever and rabies cases reported across Moldova

Between July 29 and August 5, 2025, veterinary authorities in the Republic of Moldova confirmed new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) and one case of rabies:

During the same period, two ASF outbreaks were successfully eradicated.

In this context, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) urges all pig owners to:

ANSA also reminds citizens not to purchase pigs or pork products from unauthorized sources and not to bring pork-based food products into the country from neighboring states. Such products will be confiscated and destroyed due to the high risk of virus transmission.

At national level, there are currently three active outbreaks of African Swine Fever in domestic pigs and one in wild boars. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 41 outbreaks in domestic pigs and 30 positive cases in wild boars have been reported. Additionally, ANSA has registered 18 rabies outbreaks (6 foxes, 2 cats, 7 dogs, and 3 cattle), three of which remain active.

To support monitoring and containment efforts, ANSA offers a reward of 50 Euros to individuals who report the discovery and exact location of wild boar carcasses to the authorities.
