African swine fever outbreak in the north of the country
The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) reports the detection of an African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak among domestic pigs near the localities of Ochiul Alb and Nicoreni in Drochia district.
The General Police Inspectorate, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, and local public authorities have been alerted. Laboratory samples were collected, after which the carcasses were disposed of through burial, and the affected areas were subjected to thorough disinfection measures.
Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the ASF virus in the collected samples, and a set of measures has been implemented to prevent the spread of the disease.
Quarantine measures have been introduced in the outbreak zones, along with the establishment of protection and surveillance areas. Authorities are monitoring wild animal reservoirs, controlling the movement of animals within the country, and conducting screening of both domestic pigs and wild boar populations.
All aspects have been documented by the institutions involved. An investigation has been launched to identify the individuals responsible for illegally dumping the pig carcasses. Those found guilty risk severe sanctions for the violations committed, as well as for the damages caused.
To prevent the spread of this confirmed outbreak—caused by the negligence and irresponsibility of certain individuals—entire Drochia and Rîșcani districts have been placed under quarantine, in accordance with sanitary-veterinary regulations. The sale of live pigs and pork from household farms in both districts, including in agri-food markets, has been restricted until the risk of infection spread is fully eliminated.
